WASHINGTON DC, KOMPAS.com - Sebanyak 9 perusahaan memboikot iklan digital mereka di Facebook, buntut dari unggahan Presiden Amerika Serikat (AS) Donald Trump yang dinilai mengandung ujaran kebencian.
Selain Facebook, kesembilan perusahaan ini juga menghentikan sementara iklan digital mereka di Instagram (yang dimiliki Facebook).
Kampanye bertajuk "Stop Hate For Profit" atau "Hentikan Kebencian demi Keuntungan" ini diadakan oleh NAACP, Color for Change, the Anti-Defamation League, Sleeping Giants, Free Press, dan Common Sense Media.

Beberapa perusahaan besar juga ikut ambil bagian dari boikot ini, termasuk sejumlah besar industri pakaian outdoor.
"Dari monetisasi ujaran kebencian hingga diskriminasi di algoritma mereka, hingga menjamurnya penindasan pemilih serta membungkam suara orang kulit hitam, Facebook enggan bertanggung jawab atas kebencian, bias, dan diksriminasi yang tumbuh di platform mereka," tulis situs web Color for Change yang dikutip Yahoo! News.
Dengan menargetkan pengiklan, kelompok ini berharap agar Facebook mengubah cara dalam menangani hoaks.

Penanganan hoaks ini dilakukan Twitter dengan menandai twit Presiden Donald Trump yang dinilai mengandung hoaks dan glorifikasi kekeraan.
Twit itu juga diunggah Trump ke Facebook, tapi berbeda dengan Twitter yang melakukan tindakan, Facebook membiarkannya.
